I was going to leave comments on a blog entry but since the opinions I am going to share really covers a multitude of situations im just going to put it down once and for all.

First of all, in this situation the school is incidental. UP, UST, DLSU, PUP, FEU, PLM. A school is a place where there is invariably a diverse population that will, like it or not, cover cliches. (Cliches are there for a reason people. Accept it.)

The problem that cropped up (as it did with other controversial issues) is that people protested that people like to judge. I dont think that's bad, in my opinion you need people around you who judge you by your actions the same way you want people to accept you "just the way you are". There are too many egotistical people around who think they are too good for this earth as it is.

I dont think that that is the problem. I do find that the internet has a tendency to dehumanize comments and it makes it so much easier to judge a person. And so the crux of the matter is that people dont think and feel when they make judgements. What i hate is when people dont make judgements out of the need to show that person what he or she needs to improve and they make judgements so that they can feel better about themselves and/or justify the life they lead and the actions they made.

I find it a little ridiculous that people make sweeping comments about a person's whole life based on his/her online presence. I have friends I've known for more than 10 years who are still surprised by some of my opinions. And besides, people change. Constantly. Every person who touches our life changes us and vice versa. So what applies now does not necessarily apply one hour from now when we have finished a particularly enlightening conversation with a complete stranger. So don't write off a person's future based on his or her actions today.

Now to my actual comment about her retelling of her experience. I've no idea how she was raised and I'm happy that her family is well off enough to provide her with luxuries in life (I also hope that I can provide the same to my kids when I do have them). She provided a biting and to some witty comments about her immersion trip. I was on a similar trip two years ago and I have to say that it also was not the most comfortable trip ive been in. The plumbing was awful but im practical enough to use it since i prefer to be clean and healthy during my stay there.

The Aetas are not perfect, they are not all beautiful kind people. They are people who lead a somewhat different life than we do but essentially they are Filipinos. I see in them the same pride, same weaknesses and problems we face elsewhere. Some were gracious, some hard working, some proud, others weren't.

I actually dont believe much in the 2-3 day immersion thing since you dont really get to know the people. An immersion for me is seeing what you want to see and feeling what you want to feel. More often than not, it just becomes an affirmation of what you want to see. In a way its a way for you to learn who you are more than who these people are. Its a way to see what you are when all the creature comforts are gone and you are faced with people less fortunate than you are.

In the end, its not the judgement from your host family, your professor, your school, your friends you wrote the post for, or the random/anonymous people who made a judgement based on your post that counts. What counts is what your judgement of who you are at the end of the experience.

Good News. The Red Cups are back next week!

Bad news... The barista told me they aren't sure if Peppermint Mocha will be available this year!

So background:
Me? I love Christmas. I love everything about Christmas. The Songs, the weather, the spirit, the mad rush to shop, the wrapping of gifts... even the bankruptcy. I love to celebrate the fact that at least once a year, people make the effort to change, to love more, to give. Sure, most of the year people suck (some are more miserly on Christmas) but I love the fact that people Try.

Even if they forget that Christmas is about Christ's birth, even if they do it for the most superficial reason. Fact is, they try. And that is something to celebrate I think.

So anyway. back to the most superficial thing... Starbuck's peppermint Mocha. See for me, its become a tradition. Drinking PMs remind me of christmas'es past. Time spent with friends, chatting til morning in various SB cafes. It reminds me of quiet times spent contemplating past years, the resolutions I made, the dreams I mapped out.

So d@mn it all! Give me my Peppermint Mocha!!!

So many things have happened this year. I've been up, I've been down, and i've rolled all around.

I've picked up new hobbies, learned new things, forgot a LOT of things. I made new friends, broke friendships, pissed off a few people along the way. BUT... BUT, I've no doubt this will be the highlight of my year.

I liked a lot of people but I've never been in love. They say you're in love when you can't sleep, you smile into space and you can't wait until you see the object of your affection. In that case... I'm in love...

The last 5 months has been crazy for me. I've experienced so many highs and lows, and Im just so exhausted that I feel like I need to sleep for 1 full week before I can recover properly. My uncle died. That's a biggie. I know that not a lot of people are close to their uncles and I have to say I'm not as close to him as we were. But he is the uncle who fetched me from school, made sure I was being taken care of by my Yaya and teased me to death. He was so full of life and his death just emphasized how much he loved it. His passing is something that still gives us pain, and I am still susceptible to tears when I remember him. He will always be missed and I look forward to when we see each other again.

God has been there for us though and he has never failed to show his support. Not that I have been properly appreciative, but there you go. He gave me a great job that I enjoy and love that has helped me through it. HOWEVER, distraction also meant 4 projects back to back. It meant pulling in 10-12 hour working days. So yes, Im tired and exhausted. Our VP gave me time off (she's really awesome) and yesterday I had my back checked.

My spinal column is STRAIGHT! A lot of people said, oh, good for you, your scolio is better? NO, its not! Our spinal column is naturally curved and mine is uhmm, unnaturally straight. It was nice to perplex my doctor and she wanted to know if i had any trauma but as there were no cracks, etc. she finally believed me. So im back to doing drugs.

So yeah, im now banned from spending too much time in front of the computer (AS IF!) and Im going to take some serious vacation.

First stop, R&R in Palawan. If my doctor allows it then Surfing in Ilocos and if I can fit it in the year whitewater rafting in CDO. Otherwise ill be home in Galera and maybe Baguio. I need to compensate for the loss by burying myself in activities. Im looking foward to next year. I just want this year over and done with, you know?

PS. This is the first year where I skipped my Bday celebration. No matter how much they tried to get me to go, I just couldnt find the energy. So hopefully I can celebrate it soon.

wasting time

I have had the most unproductive week ever. Workwise, at least. I feel so guilty but I do feel like Im done for the year. Its frustrating since I have tons of deadlines to meet and I cant seem to move from where I am.

I feel like im stuck in the Takeshi's castle contest, I just finished wrestling the sumo wrestler and Im dead tired. Now I cant make the next step to cross the river because Im afraid that the stone is really just styrofoam. And im stuck in the middle of the river. And Im deathly afraid that the cannon ball will hit me soon.

Hay, I badly need a vacation. And October seems to far away. Hmm, although I could just stay in Palawan, live at the penal colony and do mindless chores.
